On a blue hexagon 3 inches (7.62 cm) circumscribing diameter a white star 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in diameter charged with a red disc partially over a pair of golden orange wings below a galleon in full sail of golden orange.
The galleon is suggestive of exploration and discovery and is appropriate to the spirit of the Air Forces, and together with the hexagon as the basic figure is particularly appropriate to the 6th Air Force.
The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved on 13 July 1943.
